Seriously, Why Does the Food at Xochimilco in Yakima Have to Be So Amazing?

Last night was one of those nights where I got caught up with a project and, before I knew it, it was already 6 p.m. I didn't feel like making anything at that point so it just turned into a 'welp! I guess we'll just go out to eat,' type of nights. We didn't really know where to go until Xochimilco was suggested. It's been a while so why not.

They have a few locations in Yakima; all are fantastic. We opted for the one at Glenwood Square.

If you've never been to Xochimilco, you've gotta try their mole. It's so unique to them, specifically, as it's from a certain region and they boast it's the best in Washington State. And, so far, until proven otherwise, they're right.

They ordered the Enchiladas de Mole Oaxaqueno. Enchiladas with that famous mole, shredded chicken. A sure winner.

What to order for myself? hmm. Well, I do love chile rellenos. If you're not familiar, they're often a green pepper hollowed and stuffed with cheese. Then dipped in egg batter and fried. It's a pretty amazing experience. I'm always down for enchiladas and I've never met a burrito I didn't distrust.

Me? Well, I'm all about those combination plates. Just a standard big ol' burrito with rice and beans is often perfect for me. That's one thing this place doesn't have that most do is the burrito option, though they do have it in the burritos section of the menu (not the combinations) but this particular evening I was feelin' the enchiladas and, as luck would have it, they had an enchilada and chile relleno combo so that's what I grabbed.

By this time we're all stuffed but that won't stop us from ordering dessert. Xochimilco has some of the best fried ice cream in Yakima and the flam is always on point but since there were a few of us at the table we opted for the churros. Simple, plain, basic and totally delicious. Cinnamon and sugar dusted fried pastry, how can you go wrong?

If you find yourself in one of those battles of 'Restaurant Pong' where you just volley suggestions back and forth until you finally decide on one, this place is a can't-miss.
