A state of emergency has been called in both the city of Yakima and Yakima County after two cases of coronavirus were confirmed in Yakima on Thursday.
Yakima County officials made the announcement after a meeting Thursday morning. The state of emergency makes state and federal emergency funds available to the area if the funding is needed. Yakima city officials are expected to declare an emergency Friday.
While two cases have been confirmed in Yakima, many tests are pending including tests on an East Valley High School student. School officials say doctors also told two other students and a staff member to stay home.
The Yakima Health District is expected to hold a news conference Friday to talk about the current coronavirus cases and how the county is responding.

So far there are 457 cases in the state and 31 deaths.
