I know I am not the only one excited that Seattle is set to get a National Hockey League team in 2021!

Frickin' A!

Keep on reading and then take the "Name That NHL Seattle Team Poll" below.

Before I moved to Yakima in 2002, I was a huge hockey fan. I was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, and in 1998, we became the home of the Nashville Predators NHL team. Hockey fever suddenly took over my beloved city, and I had the fever for more hockey (and some cowbell)!

After I had moved to Yakima, I was so pumped to go to my first Tri-City Americans junior ice hockey game but I was so disappointed that I didn't feel the same rush of hockey excitement I had felt in Nashville. I haven't given hockey a thought ever since. UNTIL NOW!

Here's how I became a fan of hockey: I remember my very first hockey game back in 1998 like it was yesterday. I had received a free ticket and official Predators jersey shirt (SCORE!)  from the local radio station! I couldn't find any friends who wanted to go to the game with me, so I went by myself. The station had given me a ticket in a really good section, right close to the action!

When the first hockey fight broke out on the ice, I remember the crowd getting so hyped up, cheering and jeering. Some patrons in the crowd were yelling obscene things including, "Kill 'em! Beat his face up, man!" or something to that effect.

I, being the prudish, mild-mannered young lady that I was (at that time), promptly stood up and yelled out to the masses, "Peace, my brothers! Peace!" That's when the little girl in pigtail curls sitting next to me (she was not much older than 9 or 10 years old) pointed directly at me, turned to her father and shouted, "Daddy, I think she needs a BEER!"

I can still remember one of the crowd's favorite hockey chants from way back 1998 (and they still do it to this day): "LET'S GO PREDATORS!" *CLAP, CLAP, CLAP-CLAP-CLAP!* I still have my Nashville Predators jersey at home tucked away in my closet somewhere. Some sixteen years later after leaving my hometown, I can finally pull it back out with excitement!

We should think about naming our new team, but it needs to be something strong, something that invokes TERROR in the eyes of the other team. We've had the Super Sonics, Sounders, Seahawks and so forth, but I've got a few suggestions that should make our team STAND OUT IN A CROWD. Which one do you like the best?
