Yakima Could Sure Use a Mochinut Shop
Mochinut?
Yep, Mochinut.
Mochinut is a new style of doughnut shop featuring mochi doughnuts. These doughnuts with a unique shape that almost resemble beaded bracelets are made with rice flour which gives them a more bouncy, fluffy texture and, by using rice flour, it also makes them gluten-free by default. Not to say that all Mochinuts are gluten-free as many containing icing and other flavorings on top.
Yes, you're paying for the gimmick, but it's a fun idea and the ones I tried were amazing. I just grabbed a 3-pack.
Cinnamon Churro, Orange Kumquat and Chocolate Funnel Cake. All three were amazing. I don't think I need to go into much detail. I love that you can kind of rip them ball by ball.
Since this is a South Korean-inspired place they have other fun flavors you wouldn't typically see at other doughnut shops like taro, ube and matcha.
Along with Mochi Doughnuts, they also carry Korean Corn Dogs. Though these don't contain corn meal like our corn dogs do (hence, the name) they're still called as such for their similar shape and concept. These are hot dogs or sometimes cheese or even both are skewered on a wooden stick, then battered with potato or rice flour or even sweet potato. Then, finished with a sprinkle of sugar and whatever other toppings you may want like ketchup or mustard. These are fun.
We have a large enough influence in Yakima and I think the gimmick of these Mochinuts would make a great addition to Yakima. I'd love to see it.
The nearest Mochinut locations are in the Seattle are where they have 5-6 including Crossroads Mall in Bellevue and Southcenter Mall in Tukwila.
