Yakima May Never Have a ‘Whole Foods’ But I Think I Have a Solution That Would Work
Anytime the question of 'what store does Yakima need?' pops up, Whole Foods is usually high on the list of requested stores for our humble valley. I'm sure Whole Foods looks into several criteria on why Yakima doesn't seem to have one. Though I also think a Whole Foods would do great here in town for every reason (especially if they would also sell local produce) I think I have a solution that we could get something like Whole Foods to fill that void.
If you're not familiar, Huckleberry's Natural Market is the name of two or three aisles in Rosauers that provides a natural food and supplement selection.
This, however, is just a couple of aisles.
What Spokane has is its own location.
In Spokane, WA, right next their Rosauers is Huckleberry's. Connected at the hip, sure, but it's its own store filled from wall to wall with all the stuff one would look for and not just a few aisles.
I think Yakima could do this, too.
It doesn't even have to be next to the existing Rosauers (though that would be nice). They could have the Rosauers on 72nd stay where it is and then have just a Huckleberry's Natural Market next to Target or something. I think that'd be a fun location. Or even at Valley Mall.
Sure, it doesn't come with the Whole Foods name that's so popular, but it doesn't need to as it's basically the same store.
I'm pretty sure it'd work.
