Yakima Police recruiting officers spent the weekend at the White Pass Ski resort. The officers weren't playing in the snow they were searching for future officers. Interim Chief Gary Jones says they're looking for young people who want to work and stay in Yakima and he says if there's an event that attracts young people recruiters are there. "We're not going to leave any stone unturned on this we're going to look for all different areas for people who are potentially interested."
The department has 135 commissioned officers but it is budgeted for 148 officers. Some of the current officers are set to retire within the next year. Jones says as a result they're in need of new officers. He says they try to be involved with community activities and events including visiting area schools. And Jones says they work actively with the military to recruit new Yakima Police officers. If you are interested contact the Yakima Police Department at 575-6200.
