• Top U.S. trade officials are expected to meet with Japanese trade officials this week in Washington.

The two groups are expected to continue dialogue on issues in the Asia-Pacific trade deal.

U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman said last week “we’re now at a critical juncture in this negotiation.” He made those remarks at a Trans-Pacific Partnership event further stating “"we are working hard with Japan to achieve our shared objectives.”

Talks have been ongoing for months on agriculture trade barriers.

  • Toxic blue-green algae has been confirmed in the Willamette River by state health officials.

They have expanded the health advisory warning people and their pets to stay out of the water.

Oregon’s Department of Environmental Quality took water samples from the river for testing. Tests were conducted after algae was spotted in the river and results released. The warning has now been expanded from Sauvie to Ross Islands and the Oregon Health Authority is warning people to stay out of the water and by all means, do not drink it.

Updates will be released once the algae bloom has cleared and the water is once again safe.
