Can Tecmo Bowl Predict Super Bowl 46?
With the Super Bowl coming up, I wanted to see if I could get a sneak preview of the winner, but how? Do research on each of the players? Call Miss Cleo? I’ll do research the best way I know how, by pitting those teams against each other on Tecmo Super Bowl on the old 8-bit Nintendo (NES).
I originally wanted to try this on Tecmo Bowl, but the original title didn’t have New England so in it’s 1991 sequel, Tecmo Super Bowl, I was able to choose both teams. Have the computer play as both, grab some snacks and sit back and watch what could be the greatest Super Bowl we’ve had in a long time.
Giants win the coin toss and it’s already action packed from the get go. It didn’t take very long for New York to score their first touchdown. Not to be out-done, New England scored their first touchdown as well. Both team with successful field goals, the first quarter ends with a tied score of 7-7.
At the beginning of the second quarter it doesn’t take the Giants to score their next touchdown within 3 or 4 plays. Repeating what happened in the first quarter of the game, the Patriots score their 2nd touchdown as well. The score is now tied 14-14. A few minutes pass with standard plays. Giants Fumble! Giants Fumble! New England picks it up! They go for a long bomb which goes incomplete. With only a few seconds on the clock, New England punts to New York. They go for a pass which is intercepted by New England! The Patriots go for a field goal with 10 seconds on the clock which is good. 2nd quarter ends with a score of 17-14 – New England.
Wow! Madonna doesn’t look half bad for her age!
Going into the 3rd quarter with New England on top, 17-14, Giants score the first touch down of this quarter to put them back in the lead. The score is now 17-21 and Giants are back on top.
Here we go, 4th quarter and New England scores a touchdown almost immediately. 24-21 – New England! After gaining ground the Giants score another touchdown as well to make it 24-28. Time is running out and it looks like the Giants are going to make it. With about a minute left on the clock, New England cuts through New York’s defenses and scores, yet, another touchdown. 31-28 New England and, as the buzzer sounds, that’s the game.
I’ve seen high school football games that haven’t scored as much as this simulation for Super Bowl 46 but, with a score of 31-28, your Super Bowl champions are the New England Patriots. We’ll see how accurate this is coming up this Sunday.
