"Life," a wise man once said, "is a sandwich I did not order."

Or in this week's Couples Court case, Chinese takeout.

The problem is a woman whose boyfriend's cheapness makes her feel like chopped liver. Like most of us, she wants to be wined and dined. But her tightwad significant other insists on splitting all the bills and would rather order takeout than take her out for a night on the town.

Here's how she tells it ...

Dear Rik and Michele:
My boyfriend recently disappointed me. Last week, I celebrated my 30th birthday. I expected him to make it special. Instead, we got Chinese takeout and a bottle of cheap wine.
No fireworks!
We've been dating for two months and I've noticed that it kills him to pay when we go out. We always split bills down the middle. He's great company and would be perfect except for being overly frugal. At some point, a lady likes to be treated like a lady and spoiled a bit.
My guy's cheap streak is turning me off. Is being cheap a reason to dump someone? Do I have a valid complaint?

So what do you think, jurors? Should she keep looking over the menu and see if she can do better with another guy, or is she just trying to have her cake and eat it, too?
