The other day we started talking about strange things your dog has eaten or chewed up.

This got me thinking about the strange things kids eat.

When my son Jackson was around 2 years old he was playing with my shoes in my closet. I had a new pair of shoes still in the box, which he opened. Inside the box was one of those gel packets that says, "DO NOT EAT."

But if you're 2, you don't look too closely at warning labels. I found Jackson sitting in my closet eating that gel packet -- and panic set in!

I quickly picked him up, ran to the phone and started dialing the poison control center. When you have little kids in the house you have a list of emergency numbers near the phone. This was the first time I'd needed a number off that very list.

The poison control center operator was very calming as I'm sure she could hear the panic in my voice. I told her what Jackson had eaten and she simply said that those gel packets get eaten all the time. She said that it wouldn't harm him, but to keep an eye on him.

I asked her why the label said "DO NOT EAT" if the packet wasn't harmful. She said because if they didn't put that on them, people would just eat them.

What strange thing has your kid eaten?
