What is a ‘Chivito’ Sandwich and Why You Need to Try One in Yakima
My kids and I found ourselves as a favorite spot in Yakima a few days ago. The kind of place that you already know what you're going to order before you sit down but you still feel compelled to look at the menu, both to make sure your favorite item is still there but to also see if there are any new items that jump out at you.
That was the case with me on this fateful day at Bob's Burgers in Yakima.
I get the Cubano 98% of the time I visit. In fact, if there's any restaurant with a Cubano on the menu, I'm probably getting it 99% of the time.
Still, though, looking at other options just for fun I spotted something that wasn't familiar.
A Chivito sandwich.
I've never even heard of it before I saw it, but reading about it made me curious to grab one.
But is this legit? I had to look it up on Wikipedia and, sure enough, there is was.
From Wikipedia:
Chivito is the national dish of Uruguay. It is a sandwich of sliced beefsteak, mozzarella, ham, tomatoes, mayonnaise and black or green olives. A chivito commonly also includes bacon and fried or hard-boiled eggs. It is served in a bun, often accompanied by French-fried potatoes.
I'm glad I decided to order this as it was huge. Like, the size of a football, and almost the same shape.
It's a great sandwich. Especially for someone like me who isn't the biggest fan of cheeseburgers. They're fine, but not my favorite. I'd rather have a French dip or, again, my favorite Cubano. It was so big I couldn't even finish it. Great news, it made for a great late-night snack for my Delicious in Dungeon marathon on Netflix.
Next time you find yourself at Bob's Burgers and Brew and not sure what to order, give the Chivito a chance. As much as I love my Cubano from there, I may have to order this again.
