It's about that time once again where we have to figure out how taxes work. I have a feeling that more people in the United States can explain the pythagrian therom or tell you the mitochondria is the powerhouse of a cell, but when it comes to doing your taxes, many are left kinda clueless.

We have plenty of services you can take your forms and receipts to have an expert do your taxes for you, which is nice. But there are many who prefer to figure it out themselves and, fortunately, most websites that host tax returns walk you through the process as well. Sometimes even for free, depending on how complicated your taxes are.

Here are just a few websites you can visit if you prefer to do your taxes online.

These are in no particular order.

Washington State Department of Revenue
This makes the most sense as the official Department of Revenue for Washington State has their own website where you may submit and file your taxes.

TurboTax
TurboTax has been around a long time and is a preferred tax website by many. They walk you through the process step-by-step and even remind of you things that maybe you didn't know could count as a tax credit. For an additional fee, they also offer 1-on-1 help and guidance if you have questions.

eFile
If you're filing your taxes electronically, it'd make sense a website like efile.com could help you with that. And, again, if your taxes are simple enough, you can probably get them done for free. Nice and easy.

Free Tax USA
Another tax filing website where you can file your taxes for free. May be worth checking out.

H&R Block
That's right, that familiar sign, that familiar logo, that reminder that April comes sooner than expected every year, if you're looking for a reputable brand but don't want to go in to get your taxes done you can get them done online all the same.

Tax Slayer
Probably my favorite name for a company that helps you file your taxes. Tax Slayer is one, like TurboTax, that will walk you through to get the best refund by finding credits you didn't consider.

TaxAct
TaxAct comes with a few options up front which is nice to see instead of getting surprised in the end with a bill. From free simple taxes to paying a little with help if you have mutliple sources of income, TaxAct can definitely help you out.
