Drivers Not Stopping For Red Lights? Yakima Police Say Slow Down

Yakima Police Officers made a record 932 traffic stops during the week of June 25 through July 1 and issued 423 citations. It's the highest number of stops and citations issued since the program started late last summer.

ONGOING PATROLS HAVEN'T STOPPED PEOPLE FROM RUNNING LIGHTS

The Officers continue to see drivers who aren't stopping for red lights and are getting in crashes. During the week the Officers investigated 34 collisions with 16 the result of drivers not stopping for a red light.

DESPITE THE PATROLS THREE INTERSECTIONS STILL SEE CRASHES

Even after months of enforcement action police say the red light crashes are still happening at three specific intersections in the city;
*40th Avenue and Powerhouse Road
*East Yakima Avenue and 17th Street
*16th Avenue and Summitview

HEAD ON A SWIVEL PAYING ATTENTION AT INTERSECTIONS IN YAKIMA

The Yakima Police Department has urged drivers to be more cautious when approaching intersections and to pay attention to traffic lights and road signs. They advise drivers to slow down, look both ways, and make sure the road is clear before proceeding.

NO PLANS TO STOP THE PATROLS SO BE CAREFUL

The Police Department has also said that while their focus is on preventing road accidents, they will not hesitate to take enforcement action against drivers who fail to follow traffic rules. The program will continue to run in Yakima, with the police department hoping to bring down the number of red light crashes significantly.
