They’ve Been Waiting the Longest: Meet Yakima’s Most Overlooked Shelter Dogs
A pet can really change your life for the better, and the other side of the coin is that by adopting a pet, you can not only change that animal’s life for the better, but its entire world! I looked through our local pet shelter for their pups that have been in there the longest, and are ready for some freedom. Check the list out below.
A Puppy Prison?
Whenever my wife and I have to lock up our dog (mainly when we’re at work), we make the joke about it being puppy prison. He’s behind bars, for his own good, even though he didn’t do anything wrong.
Well, much like the pets at the Yakima Humane Society, they’re in kennels, yes, to keep them safe, but because they need a change. Needing to catch a break and a new lease on life, and their leash in the hands of a caring person.
That is where you in the Yakima Valley can come into play. The Yakima Humane Society has many ways for you to help the animals there. Donations, volunteer dog walkers, even fostering programs, and just announced ‘Sleepover Slumber Pet Parties’ where you can take home a dog for an evening, see if they’re a good fit for your family, and even give the pooch a little break from the kennel.

Looking at the list of dogs available for adoption on YHS’s website, my heart sank for all of these fuzzy friends just wanting a good home.
