Back in the olden days, kids and young adults used to hang out at the soda fountain.

Whether it was for a date, a study session, or to get caught up on the latest hot gossip, the place that offered sundaes, double scoops on a waffle cone, and other ice cream treats was the bees knees. ("That's the bee's knees" is the yesteryear equivalent of today's "brat", "dope", "it's LIT", "fire" and "sick.")

So yes, it was "sick" to meet up with your bestie and "little boo thang" at the soda fountain. Milkshakes, hot dogs, and sodas (pop) cost literally pennies on the dollar, and I wish food prices were still affordable like that. *deep sigh*

There are a couple of tasty, golden oldies places like this still left in Washington, although they are mere relics.

They not only serve ice cream and shakes, but they also offer burgers and salads, too. (They used to be called Nifty Fiftys.)

Here's a view from the pier. How lovely!

Another cool find is Shug's. It's a real humdinger! (That's the equivalent of today's generation using the term "that's bussin". Either way you wanna say it, I'm still cringing.) I'm not cringing on the Shug's menu, though!
