Local Animal Activists Want Pit Bull Ban Lifted in Yakima [MAYOR’S BLOG]

Last night the Yakima city council heard from a number of animal rights activists about the ban on Pit bulls in Yakima. The ban has been in place since 1989 and was upheld by the Washington State Supreme Court.

Pit Bulls have long been the center of attention for their toughness and strength. I'm sure you all remember NFL QB Michael Vick and his scandal of breeding pit bull dogs and raising them to fight each other.

There have been numerous dog attacks in Yakima over the last 20 years, and any of them resulting in serious injury or death have involved pit bulls.

The argument on both sides is compelling and the Yakima City Council will take up the issue in a November study session. I want to know what you think. Should pit bulls be banned in the city of Yakima?
