Washington State is Home to One of the Most Miserable Cities
And, no, it's not Yakima.
I just love finding lists of Best City for 'This' or Worst City for 'That' type of lists that people go out and do research on to present to us. Then I shamelessly scroll through the list to see if Washington makes the list for any, or if any city I've visited makes the list. It's morbid fun for me. Curiousty and something about cats and all that.
Our friends at Health Depot listed a list of the Most Miserable Cities in America. I was actually a little surprised by a few towns that made the list, but they made the list for a variety of reasons. Casper, Wyoming was on this list. I used to live there and I loved it but they have their reasonings on why it was listed. Towns like Milwaukee and St. Louis I've been to a few times and love those towns, but I also don't have to live there so I can't say much.
Then there's the college town of Pocatello, Idaho. I didn't live there, but lived near there so would visit often. Fun college town but, again, they have their own reasons. My reason, if any, would be thanks to Idaho State University being home of the ISU Bengals, their state fair calls Elephant Ears 'Tiger Ears' which makes literally no sense.
Then it comes to Washington State and there's only one city on this list that was featured, but was featured for all of the right reasons.
Where is the most miserable city in Washington State?
Lakewood.
Lakewood is south of Tacoma. If you thought Tacoma was miserable, Lakewood is Tacoma's leftovers.
What's more, too, is I have a friend that lives in Lakewood and I've been there.
High unemployment rates, crime rate is 105% above national average and almost 20% live below poverty level, I can see why they'd consider this place miserable.
Not to mention the average income per capita is about $26,000 and their schools aren't the best, either, with average test scores being 20% of the national average.
If you have the means, move. Even if it's to Federal Way or something.
Though when I last visited my friend we went to a diner called Black Bear (I think) and it was amazing so it's all about what you make of your surroundings.
