There are very few foods that are perfect just the way they are. Even when you add to those perfections, it can create a masterpiece that would make Gordon Ramsey fall down to his knees in tears, crying in joy like a toddler whose ice cream cone just bit the dust. In other words, it makes something awesome, even MORE awesome. Mac and Cheese is one of those foods that in my opinion is perfect the way it is. But on the other hand, bacon is one of those rare and awesome foods that can raise the level of perfect by leaps and bounds.

In order to keep balance in the force and peace in the universe, like yin and yang, you have to have your foods that are the “anti-bacon”. At least when it comes to the traditional Mac and Cheese dish. These are things that if you want to ruin your cheesy mac, go for it, just don’t say I didn’t warn you.

5 Things You Need to Stop Putting in Your Thanksgiving Mac and Cheese

Honorable Mention: Ketchup

There are some people that think ketchup is okay in Mac and Cheese. Sure, if you want to make “Hobo-Spaghetti” go for it, for everyone else, keep that dirty secret to yourself.

5: LOBSTER

When I started making this list, my wife offered up this one. I told her how I have seen this on seafood menus. She was adamant about how lobsters are “cockroaches of the sea” and that they do not need to be anywhere near her Mac and Cheese. Fair enough.

4: MASHED POTATOES

I can’t even image the slop of starch this would create. Sure I like cheesy potatoes as much as the next person, but throw in the noodles? That’s against nature.

3: MUSHROOMS

Maybe it’s the fact that I’m allergic to them, but I just don’t understand people’s fascination with mushrooms. “Hey, you know what this Mac and Cheese needs? Grass fungus!” Leave it out, it serves no purpose but to make the Mac and Cheese look weird.

2: VODKA

If you’re the type of person to add a little spirits to your drink, that’s fine (depending on the occasion and location). But if you’re emptying your flask into Mac and Cheese… you have a problem.

1: CORN

This is my “Hot Take”. Corn doesn’t belong in Mac and Cheese. If you’re the type of person who does that (or add any other vegetables), WARN the folks you’re feeding it too. Nothing is worse than eating something you think will be delicious only to find something that your body doesn’t even fully digest. Plus, corn is already yellow, it’s like a ninja hiding in the shadows of delicious bowl of Mac and Cheese waiting to ruin your day. Not even the “Corn Kid” would like it mixed with Mac and Cheese. (If by chance he does, just wait a couple more years for his palette to mature).
