Let's be honest. Starbucks is the standard when it comes to coffee shops. Love'em or hate'em, there is a reason there are so many. Almost 16,500 locations in the United States, 741 in Washington State (including the original location in Seattle), and over 38,000 around the globe, Starbucks is one of the most well-known, if not the most well-known spots for coffee in the world.

However, their sales have been a bit on the down-slope, so-to-speak.

Even with a Starbucks at so many places, including inside your local grocery stores, sales haven't been as high as they have been in year's past.

How Starbucks plans on getting sales back

Fox Business reports that they have a solution that should help with sales. It's something I'm excited for.

They say they're going to simplify Starbucks.

Simply the menu, simplify the pricing, just try to make it less confusing.

According to the CEO, the menu is complex and by simplifying it could bring sales back up.

Perhaps. I don't know why it's complicated but if that's the common thought, I'm down for simple.

Here's hoping it works.

How I would fix Starbucks

Now, I'm not business major and have no stake in the company as a whole but I like Starbucks and love that they employ so many people at a time so I don't want to see any of them go. I also have a few ideas that bring sales to Starbucks.

Hear me out.

Sizes - Small, Medium Large. None of this Italian-lingo. Tall? Vente? Whatever. I'm as much a linguistics major as I am a business major. I'm not trying to solve a riddle, I didn't bring my decoder ring, I just want a small drink.

Speaking of drink, and, again, I'm only going by what I see, I see far more people ordering mixed energy drink options at other locations. Some businesses in town that used to pride themselves on amazing coffee now shifting more towards non-alcoholic mixed drinks using Red Bull and other energy drinks. Some kids drink these daily and they're not cheap going for around $10 each depending on what they're getting.

I hate to say "back in my day", but when I was in high school $10 was my lunch budget for the entire week.

Finally, and easy enough, stick to the basics. Coffee-flavored coffee. You can't go wrong. Mocha, blended drinks, definitely the pumpkin spice in fall and winter, but, as cool as they look, no need for a zombie brain blended frappa-whatever as people may just buy one and be done with it.

Starbucks are everywhere because people love consistency. The same mocha in Seattle is the same in Florida. It may not feel as fancy or unique, but they're not unique, they're Starbucks. Just focus on amazing coffee, introduce those blended Red Bull drinks and they should be good.
