Subway, in our day, was an excellent place. It's still good, but when we had $5 footlongs and they'd cut with that V-cut so it wouldn't spill out and they'd just have their quick 'this or that?' speech as you went down the assembly line. "White or wheat? Onions and tomatoes?..." It was a different time.

Though with today's inflation we can't honestly still hope for the $5 footlong to return anytime soon, not to mention Yakima locations didn't honor most national sales, but they tried to bring back a sale recently to encourage people to visit Subway. Especially if it's been a while since they've been in.

Just recently they had a national promotion offering $6.99. It kicked off early this month on National Sandwich Day (November 3rd) and got you a 6" sub, small drink and chips or cookie. In today's age, that's a pretty solid deal.

Well, it didn't last long. In fact, not even a month. They just ended it though the promotion was supposed to last much longer.

Why did Subway stop the $6.99 deal early?

According to USA Today, they stopped it because it was underperforming.

Again, I'm that generation of $5 footlongs and even though it was 20 years ago, I still long for those days. Now when you go to Subway the footlongs are over $10. Even the 6" can be around $10 depending on what you're ordering.

The good news is to combat this Subway is offering a 20% coupon that'll get you 20% off any of the sandwiches when you order online or through the app. It's not much, but better than nothing.

Seriously, though, just bring back the v-cut.
