The Hidden Gem Known As ‘Il Grasso’ in Zillah!
I am thankful to have had friends that already lived here before moving into town. It was and is a HUGE blessing to have them here cause, well, they know where all the hotspots and hidden gems can be found.
John & Rosie have lived in Yakima for over 20 years. I grew up with Rosie. We go way back. Her husband John is former military and a heck of a friend. So when they tell me about a hidden gem, I listen.
Il Grasso's Koi Pond
Last week we made plans to have lunch on Sunday. As Yakima veterans, I always defer to John and Rosie for a great recommendation. So when they mentioned ‘Il Grasso’ @ JB Cellars just outside Zillah, I was game. Il Grasso is a partnership with JB Cellars - a staple in Zillah. So when I found out Il Grasso specialized in Northwest Italian food, in the heart of Yakima Valley Wine Country, I said sign me up!
Brick Hen with Pesto, Pine Nuts and Parmesan
Sometimes you gotta dig a bit for gold. In this case, the dig was about a 20-minute drive from Yakima on a beautiful summer day. Getting to Il Grasso is one of those driving the backroads, in addition to a dirt road ride. This better be good.
When we arrived we were greeted by an awesome garden setting complete with a relaxing Koi pond.
Il Grasso's Wine Flight
After arriving, we put away our masks and were seated. The service was top notch – a very friendly and warm staff, made sure we were at home. It felt like being in the backyard of a good friends house with food, drink and great conversation. It felt like home.
Il Grasso's Charcuterie
We ordered a wine flight and the Brick Hen Chicken. As we sipped our flight, we caught up with John & Rosie along with some new friends Matt & Kayla. Our food arrived. Our Brick Hen was covered in pesto, pine nuts and fresh parmesan.
It was served with potatoes and snappy Blue Lake Green Beans that might have been the best I have ever tasted. The food at Il Grasso is simply amazing. The service is top notch, and the setting is perfect for a warm sunny afternoon.
Salmon Sandwich w/Prosciutto.
What a great experience. Upon leaving, I saw a sign that said "il grasso e sapore!" Not being super fluent in Italian (or English for that matter), I whipped out the Googlebox and saw that it meant “Fat Flavor”! Yep, they nailed it.
I can't wait to come back and try their RIb-eye. Zillah, you got a real winner with this one.
