Walmart Could Be Getting Rid of THIS — and I’m Glad
Remember when Walmart had greeters? They would actually be standing there on the way into the store welcoming you to Walmart.
Now we have employees who just judge you when you walk out and want to check your receipt.
I found myself at Walmart yesterday as my kid needed a few items for school. We did some basic shopping, and, like most of the time I go to Walmart, I end up with something that I didn't go there for in the first place. In this case it was a new microwave (we've been needing a new microwave as it was so it's all good).
That's when I remembered that Walmart doesn't provide bags and you have to check yourself out with the exception of that one small check stand with a conveyor belt not much larger than a Snickers bar.
As I was ringing myself up I look behind me and there's a HUGE line of people waiting to ring themselves up as well.
I rang myself up, had the receipt text to me, the guy, as I was leaving asked to see my receipt, I told him I didn't have one and kept walking.
All could be eliminated if they just went back to having cashiers do the work for you. Sure, maybe keep some of the self-check for smaller shopping lists, but still.
Well, it looks like some Walmarts are going back to having actual check stands with actual people ringing up items for you.
According to KOCO News 5 in Oklahoma many stores are going back to this as when you ring yourself up, it also opens up more opportunity for theft. Yes, you're being recorded at all times. Yes, you're always on watch. However, the keen-minded know how to avoid being seen and, with others who seem like they're using it for the first time or waiting on a price check or people who aren't as fast or efficient as you'd like them to be, it should spell for a smoother Walmart shopping experience if more people can be rung up my actual cashiers whose job it is to make sure all is good.
And, who knows, if it's successful maybe we'll get greeters back in our stores.
