The Ever-Growing Long List of Religious Holidays for WA Schools
Kids are going back to school and they're already wondering when their next day off is.
Well kids, like adults, love that magical 3-day weekend to give them an extra day to hang out, catch up on their own projects or, like me when I was in school, sit around and play video games or watch movies.
There are several reasons to employ a day off and, for some, for many reasons, it may have a religious reasoning.
According to the the State of Washington, RCW 28B.137.010.
(1) Postsecondary educational institutions must develop policies to accommodate student absences to allow students to take holidays for reasons of faith or conscience or for organized activities conducted under the auspices of a religious denomination, church, or religious organization, so that students' grades are not adversely impacted by the absences.
The law goes on to say that it must give reasonable accommodations to account for these days as needed for these students.
These dates are also posted in advance so local schools know when these dates land so school wouldn't hold significant school events on these days so all can attend.
Islamic, Hindu, Jewish and Christian faiths are represented in these religious holidays.
