What is a ‘Sausage Roll’ and Where Can I Find One in Yakima?

We have a popular phrase you may have heard, "Sell the sizzle, not the steak." Well, in the UK they have a similar phrase, "Sell the sizzle, not the sausage." They do love their sausages overseas, maybe even more than here in the states. I would often hear about sausage rolls or see them on British programming but what are they? Turns out, they're amazing is what they are.

Like we have the corn dog, they have the sausage roll. Where our corn dog is a beef frank dipped in a corn meal coating and fried, sausages rolls are a pork sausage wrapped with puff pastry and baked. Quick, cheap, easy to make at home and often available for a quick snack or meal in the UK.

Ingredients are simple enough. Pork sausage in a flaky puff pastry shell. Simple! You can eat them by themselves or slice them up to serve. So simple, yet, so amazing.

I have yet to find a place in Yakima that carries these but they're easy enough to make at home. Might give it a shot if you feel up to it. Grab some frozen puff pastry, wrap the sausages up, cook as directed and you'll be golden.

If you must have them made for you the ones in the photo I bought at a place called British Bites in Puyallup. They're a British shop that carries tea, treats and has a little cafe that serves authentic food from the UK including these. I grabbed a few to go as they're easy to freeze and reheat for later.
