• The U.S. Department of Labor’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration will launch a national dialogue with stakeholders on ways to prevent work-related illness caused by exposure to hazardous substances.

    The agency is seeking input on the management of hazardous chemical exposures in the workplace.

    Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health Dr. David Michaels says OSHA’s standards, which are designed to protect workers from illness, injuries and fatalities are out-of-date. He announced a public dialogue aimed at giving stakeholders a forum to develop innovative, effective approaches to improve the health of workers in the United States.

    The tart green Granny Smith apples benefit the growth of friendly bacteria in the colon due to their high content of nondigestible compounds, including dietary fiber and polyphenols, and low content of available carbohydrates.

    The study showed that Granny Smith apples surpass Braeburn, Fuji, Gala, Golden Delicious, McIntosh and Red Delicious in the amount of nondigestible compounds they contain.
