Fire Damages 1UP Games But Hope Remains Strong
It's a sight nobody wants to see in Yakima.
One of our locally owned and operated businesses up in smoke with people around the building in defensive mode making sure nobody gets harmed. So long as the people are safe, the rest is just stuff.
Collectable stuff, but stuff all the same.
Not too long ago 1UP Games, a Yakima shop dealing with video games, FUNKO, Pokemon cards, and more, was on fire.
The fire was controlled relatively quickly, but the damage was already done.
What's next for 1UP Games?
I spoke to Alex, owner of 1UP Games in Yakima, about how he was holding up, what he has been doing during these last few weeks, and what the future holds for 1UP Games.
Alex said he's in a bit of a state of limbo. Waiting on a few things to happen when it comes to that location off 24th and Nob Hill, but he plans to rebuild in that exact location.
"My plan is to reopen in the same location. Right now it just feels weird because so many things are up in the air. I look forward to moving past this..."
There's still damage on the inside of the building that will need to be fixed.
If you peek your head through the front window, you can still see a few things on the ground which is interesting.
Here's hoping we don't have to wait too long.
I was one of the first to welcome Alex and 1UP Games to Yakima when he first arrived to town, me, being a huge fan of classic video games. I was very excited to see this store open and have been a regular customer over the years as many others have as well.
