Yakima Voters Did Your District Issue Pass on February 8?
Did you vote or ignore the ballot in the February 8 special election? Yakima County Auditor Charles Ross says his office sent out nearly 45,000 ballots but only 12,500 ballots or 29% were returned on election day.
The turnout for the election was smaller than Auditor Ross had predicted
That's a smaller turnout than the 34% Ross had predicted. He says with more people being added to the state's voter data base every year, people who don't necessarily plan to vote the turnout number shrinks.
But those who did vote gave thumbs up to a majority of the levy issues that appeared on the February 8 ballot. Counting continues in the auditors office until the election is certified on Friday which means all counting stops.
All but two issues passed that were on the February 8 special election ballot
Ross says levies were on the ballot in Grandview, Highland, Mt. Adams, Union Gap, Wahluke, Wapato, West Valley and Zillah School Districts. The Naches Park District asked for support for a special 2-year levy.
All the issues passed except for proposition 2 in Union Gap and the levy in the Grandview School District. Some people are wondering why they didn't get a ballot for the election. Ross says if you didn't receive a ballot for the election you didn't live in a school district that was asking for support of a special levy.
