Saturday night I got a phone call that is every parent's nightmare call ...We were at home watching a movie when the house phone rang and showed a cell number we didn't recognize.

My husband answered the phone, but they asked for me. He handed me the phone and it was a man's voice that didn't sound familiar.

He said, "Is this Benjamin's mom, Michele?

I said, "Yes?"

"This is Officer ..." he said. And after I heard "officer" my brain just started freaking out.

OMG! He's been in an accident! He's hurt!

He continued, " I pulled your son over on the highway along with another kid who he was racing down the highway. I'm not going to ticket him, but I explained to him that I could give him a $500 fine and how dangerous what he was doing was. I wanted you to know, so that you could handle it at home."

I thanked him many times and told him that I would take care of him on my end.

Benjamin had his girlfriend in the car, which is even worse, so he had to drop her off at home before he came home. I was pacing the floor during this time getting madder and madder.

He is now grounded from driving -- or doing much of anything other than going to school and coming back home.

Why do kids think they are invincible?
