When I mention Marching Band performance you probably think it's just a band playing some songs while marching around a little. Well ... It's a whole different world ... with props, color guard and actors/actresses.

It's the telling of a story through all these things combined.

The band doesn't just march in place either. Some bands make formations, lay down while playing and even climb ladders all while playing.

The 13th Annual Harvest Marching Band Festival took place at Zaepfel Stadium at Eisenhower High School over the weekend. 15 bands from Washington and Oregon competed for the title.

My son, Mathew is in the Naches Ranger Marching Band and this year the band teacher bumped them up into AAA division. I have to say that Mathew was a little worried because this meant that Naches was competing against larger schools.

Naches took second place losing first place to Hanford High School. Those kids did an awesome job and they work so hard! I'm so very proud of all of them! The icing on the cake was that they beat their arch nemesis Sultan and scored higher than Sultan!

Congratulations Naches Ranger Marching Band! Good Luck at Puget Sound Festival of Bands!
