Flag Policy On Yakima City Council Agenda Tuesday
The Yakima City Council is set to hold a regular agenda meeting Tuesday at Yakima City Hall. The council has a short agenda including proclamations for Juneteenth Freedom Week, Pride Month and Yakima Citizens and Family Diversity Month. Diversity Month is a celebration that was started in 2004 to recognize and honor the diversity in America. By celebrating differences and similarities during this month, organizers hope that people will gain a deeper understanding of each other.
The council will amend the city flag policy Tuesday
The council is also expected to pass an ordinance repealing a city code relating to flag display. The council plans to amend the Municipal Code Section relating to flag display policies to eliminate the process for allowing the display of guest flags on City poles, and specifying that City flag poles are not public forums. As a result the city will now only display the US flag and the Washington State flag.
