My soon-to-be 12-year-old, Shaylee, wants to get on Snapchat. She has my old iPhone, but she is not allowed to be on Facebook or Instagram. That's OK with her -- she prefers Snapchat because all of her siblings, cousins and a few friends communicate there.

Her 14-year-old brother, Jackson, has Snapchat, but he can't have the app's locator on. And if I ask to see his phone he has to hand it over.

I talk with my kids about predators and sharing personal information. And they are both pretty responsible and aware.

Should I let Shaylee get Snapchat?
