Yakima Banner Bank Robbery Suspect Arrested
Yakima Police say they've arrested a man who they say robbed the Banner Bank branch at 502 West Yakima Avenue on Wednesday afternoon. The man walked into the bank at about 4:50 pm Wednesday and gave a note to the teller saying he wanted cash. The man grabbed some cash and left the bank without showing a weapon. He didn't get far before he was arrested in the 400 block of West Yakima Avenue shortly after the robbery. No injuries were reported.
Will the case be handled in Yakima or will the Feds take the case
An investigation is underway by the Yakima Police Department. Police always inform the FBI which has jurisdiction in federal crimes. The Federal Bureau of Investigation however doesn't take every robbery case that happens in Yakima. Sometimes they let local officials handle the case.
Most of the time the FBI takes cases in which weapons were used
According to FBI.org "the FBI focuses its investigative resources on suspects who pose the greatest safety threats to the public, including the most violent and/or the most prolific serial offenders. We also assist our state and local partners in investigating bank robberies." There's no word on how the FBI will handle this case in Yakima but since the suspect was arrested shortly after the crime and didn't show a weapon it's possible the case will be handled by the Yakima County Prosecutors Office through an investigation by the Yakima Police Department.
