Do you know a youth in Yakima who's dedicated to making a difference in their community? Yakima Youth Awards are looking to recognize their contributions at their annual event on April 23 at Eisenhower High School, 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (611 S. 44th Ave., Yakima). According to the Yakima Herald, hey're taking nominations through March 30 -- they must be postmarked by 5 p.m. and mailed to Yakima Youth Awards, 407 S. 25th Ave., Yakima, WA 98902. Kids and teens ages 5-19 (or a group within this age group) are eligible. Contributions must have been made in Yakima county between Jan. 1 and Dec. 31, 2017. Here are the following categories for the awards:

• Arts: Outstanding involvement in performing, visual or literary arts

• Business/Enterprise: Developing career and/or business skills

• Civic/Community Service: Giving of one’s time and talent to improve the community

• Family Life: Bettering one’s family situation

• Leadership: Guiding others to a positive goal through education or example

• Personal Achievement: Getting through or beyond personal obstacles with courage, initiative and determination

• Small Group: up to nine members

• Large Group: 10 or more members
