"A story about charismatic fisherman drowning in debt. A troubled woman wrestling with battling demons. A young tax collector ostracized by society. A religious leader questioning his faith tradition. And friends navigating life. This is ‘The Chosen.’ "

I am pickey about what shows I watch. And they run the gammet. ‘Yellowstone’ on Paramount, ‘Barry’ and ‘The Righteous Gemstones’ on HBO, Breaking Bad on AMC, ‘Top Gear’ on the BBC, ‘The Grand Tour’ on Amazon Prime just a few.

As many of you know, faith is important to me. I am a guy of practical faith.

Growing up, movies and TV shows that showed those with beliefs were often a source of embarrassment. They were poorly made, poorly written, directed, acted – the sets were low budget and the stories mostly not relatable or just plain sucked.

So anytime I heard of a new movie where faith is driving the story, I quickly dismissed it due to my experience with their subpar efforts and embarrassing outcomes. That’s why when I discovered ‘The Chosen’, it was a game changer.

The Chosen’ follows the story of Jesus. Best of all, it’s not preachy, self-indulgent, nor is it full of “Christian-ese” (you know full of “thee’s”, “thous” and often pressed prayer hands staring into the heavens, where Jesus doesn't glow or have a Shakespearean accent).

‘The Chosen’ is THE EXACT OPPOSITE. Because this Jesus winks.

It’s brilliant not just for a TV show about faith, it’s great by the standard that are most celebrated shows on TV right now. It is an excellent TV show about Jesus and his friends. They joke with each other and when they do it sounds familiar. Because the tone is modern to speak to the masses without compromising the message and story.

It’s not disrespectful, nor is it light hearted. It’s just tells a story some of us may be familiar with in detail with a keen eye and respect for the culture of the times while maintaining the integrity of the story we think we know. It’s entertaining and completely refreshing.

It’s just so well done.

To prove it, it is rated an extremely rare 9.8 (out of 10) on IMBD. By comparison, one the greatest films in history is ‘The Godfather’ with a 9.2 rating (Yeah, Jesus vs. The Godfather. Jesus wins).

It’s just that good.
