Italian cuisine is one of the most sought after foods in America. Some of us are obsessed with pasta, even if we aren’t Italian by birth. Others of us are infatuated with pizza. Although some might say, “But pizza is one of America’s favorite foods,” remember that pizza originated with the Italians.

(I’m old enough to remember us being hypnotized with Season 2 of White Lotus. Americans flocked to that fancy coastal Italian resort in Sicily.)

WHAT MAKES FOR THE ULTIMATE BEST ITALIAN RESTAURANT?

In order to define the ‘best’ Italian restaurant in California and Oregon, tastingtable.com looked at award-winning eateries, fresh takes on traditional Italian menu items, and ones that are local crowd favorites. They also looked for restaurants that used fresh and local ingredients in their food. We will venture out to Venice and Portland to find the only 2 restaurants from the Pacific Northwest that made the ultimate list of the 20 best Italian restaurants in America.
