Have You Heard About The Winter Challenge 2014?

My husband recently told me that he had to do the winter challenge and I asked, "Um ... what is the winter challenge?"

He said that the winter challenge started in Canada and that if your challenged you have 24 hours to jump into a cold lake or river and dunk your head all the way under. Some variations include adding a snow angel after the dip, if there is snow on the ground.

I did a little research about the winter challenge and how it started. It's a cleansing ritual that is common among the tribes, but is done in private.

It's something that's not normally talked about in each community and they have their own word and custom. It's now gone viral!

My husband works for the Swinomish Casino and that's how he got challenged. He then challenged Yakama Legends Casino to jump and they did! Anyone can be challenged and you can decline if you wish.
