Should We Get An Elf On The Shelf?

Jackson and Shaylee are trying to talk me into getting an Elf on the Shelf. Some of their friends have them and they talk about it at school. They think it's funny all the things that the Elf does at night while their friends are sleeping.

My only issue is ... it seems like a lot of work on my end and what happens if I forget to do it one night?
