The Dating Game Has a New Term: ‘Benched’

There's another new term in the jungle of dating terminology: benching.

It's a sports analogy for having to sit out of a game while others play. Being benched is a horrible thing for a player -- and it's pretty much the same for dating.

Benching in dating terms means that you've gone on one or two dates, continue texting with that person who makes plans with you but never follows through.

Benchers will keep talking with you, sending you pictures, emojis and flirty stuff to keep you on the line -- all while they continue to pursue something better.

The benchee has hopes that the bencher will discover how great they are and put them in the game! Changes are you're not the only benchee waiting to get the game.

Basically, it's the same thing as "leading someone on," as we said in my day.

Listen up, benchees: You deserve to be treated better than that, so take control of the game yourself. Stop letting the bencher dictate who plays in the game!
