‘The Spice’ in Yakima has a Different Kind of Fried Cheese You Need to Try
I had a chance to check out The Spice the other day. I stopped by on their opening day to get food to-go but now that they offer dine-in we had a seat and ordered a few things off the menu.
If you don't know what to get, get the butter chicken.
If you know what you want, it's also probably the butter chicken.
So along with that we also got a few other items to try. One of them being this spicy chicken appetizer called Chicken 65.
These are little bits of fried chicken full of spice and flavor. Oddly enough, the 65 comes from the year this dish was invented. 1965. I had to look that up. I love trivia like that.
We also ordered a kebab. This was chicken with some kind of mint. It was amazing.
I think the highlight for us was this fried cheese dish in the appetizers called Paneer Pakora. Paneer is a common cheese used in Indian cuisine which is not that meltable so easy to use in a variety of dishes. These are cubed, fried and served with red and green chutney to dip. Both are great, but I think I prefer green. Paneer isn't salty like most cheeses found in the United States so that extra flavor helps but are just fine by themselves as well.
Check out The Spice sometime and, when you're there getting your butter chicken or chicken curry or whatever you happen to be ordering, grab the Paneer Pakora while you're at it. I think you'll love it.
