A new MSN survey shows that singles in 2013 are bound and determined to find love and if you dated you know what a cruel world it can be. So what are the top traits you look for in a potential mate? I'm sure all the key traits like good looks, the way he treats his mother, maybe even a job? When searching for a future boyfriend or girlfriend don't forget to watch out for the "Red Flags." Here are the top 5 Red Flags that could save you a bunch of time and trouble early on.

1.) If the Ex is still in the picture this might be a problem. What's that old saying "If two past lovers can remain friends, its either they are still in love, or they never were." Sage advice and one of the top "Red Flags" that could save you from a future heartache when that relationship heats back up.

2.)You catch them in lies (even little ones.) Everyone has told a lie or two for different reasons but people who are serious about a long term relationship don't have any secrets. So if you catch you date in a lie you might want to throw up the "Red Flag."

3.) They check everyone out. If you date has wandering eyes and I don't mean the mailman or waitress. I mean if you're out with them and their attention is elsewhere. That is a major "Red Flag" that they are looking for someone else.

4.) You Really Can't stand his/her friends. People always look for their friends for advice and if your friends don't like them it's a major "Red Flag."

5.) They have nothing else going on. If your date seems like they don't have a life of their own then you might want to reconsider your choice. If they don't have ambition or goals you may be looking at a bleak future and that's when I say "Red Flag."
