You Can Still Order Anchovies on Pizza at These Yakima Pizzarias

Decades before pineapple on pizza was even an argument, people would talk about anchovies on pizza.

The question wasn't whether they belonged on pizza or not, it was if people actually liked it.

And, as it turned out, so many of the people who didn't like it never even tried it. Including adults.

Funny, that.

Now, if you're not a fan of fish or seafood then, sure, you probably already don't like it.

You talk to kids about anchovies now and they'll probably remember this scene from SpongeBob SquarePants.

What do anchovies taste like?

I do like fish, but I don't taste fish when I eat anchovies (which is rearely). To me, it just tasted like if someone added smoked salt to a dish.

Admittedly, I wasn't too fond of them when I first tried it back in the '80s. I did like the sea-salt flavor, but didn't like the idea of eating basically a whole, tiny fish.

It used to be on the list of toppings at most pizza places I seem to remember, but as the year moved on they started to vanish, true to that one episode of Futurama where anchovies are extinct in the future.

I was talking to my kids about it the other day and started thinking to myself, 'is there a pizza joint in Yakima that still has anchovies on the menu?'

Where to find a pizza with anchovies in Yakima.

Abby's Pizza

It doesn't get much more classic or nostalgic of pizzarias than Abby's Pizza in Yakima. They still have an arcade and everything! Great place to celebrate birthdays. Classic pizza and those potato rounds are amazing. Not just anchovies, either. You can also order a pizza with shrimp and/or smoked oysters.

Round Table Pizza

Anchovies are still on the menu. Though I often go for the lunch buffet it may be worth getting one to go next time.

And a special mention for Mr. Pizza who doesn't seem to have anchovies on the menu, but they do have shrimp so that's something adjacent.

Magic's Pizza Shack in Selah is another that I thought would have anchovies as they're a retro-style pizza place, but they don't. They do have shrimp and artichokes as toppings, but not the classic anchovies.

I went out to pizza with a friend of mine in Seattle a few years ago and our salad had anchovies in it as well so you may find salads with anchovies, too. But if I'm going to a pizza place, I'm rarely there for salad.
