Meet Bowen, A Brave Little Heart Warrior From Yakima
It's our pleasure to showcase some amazing children and families from right here in the Yakima Valley. This month features a young man with, not one, but two congenital heart defects.
Meet Bowen.
Bowen is a lively, fun-loving 3-year-old who lights up every room! He’s all about monster trucks, dinosaurs, and his favorite color is pink. With a dimpled smile and fearless spirit (except when it comes to spiders), he’s always pushing himself to keep up with his twin and older siblings.
Diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (HLHS) and Wolff-Parkinson-White Syndrome (WPW), Bowen’s journey began before birth. His family learned of his condition at just 16 weeks pregnant, and life instantly changed. The road ahead was uncertain and scary, but they’ve embraced each day with gratitude and hope.
Bowen spent the first six months of his life in the NICU and began receiving services from Children’s Village around 9 months old. With occupational and feeding therapy, he stayed on track with his growth and development. He graduated from services just before his third birthday and continues to thrive thanks to the incredible support he received.
Children’s Village and the NICU have been life-changing for Bowen and his family. They provided not only expert care but also guidance, compassion, and hope during the toughest times.
We love hearing stories like Bowen. We have more CMN Miracle Family of the Month as well you can catch up on.
Services through Yakima's Memorial Foundation and Children's Miracle Network can ensure our children and their families can get the help and services they need. Find out more at the memfound.org.
